ROTTWEILER

HISTORIASTA:

Rottweilerin historia on pitkä ja menee ajassa kauas taakse, itse asiassa rottweileriä pidetään yhtenä vanhimmista koiraroduista. Ensimmäiset merkinnät rottweileristä ovat roomalaisvallana ajoilta, jolloin sitä käytettiin paimenena ja karjanvartijana. Rottweiler nimen ovat saaneet roomalaisvallan aikaisien koirien Rotweiler –seudulla asuneiden koirien jälkeläiset.

Myöhemmin rottweileriä käytettiin karjan ajamiseen ja vartiointiin, koiran piti vartioida sekä karjaa että isäntäänsä. Vielä nykypäivänä rottweiler omaa vahvan vartioimisvietin isäntäänsä kohtaan. Rottweiler on hyväksytty virallisena poliisikoira rotuna vuonna 1910 ja rottweileriä on myös käytetty näkövammaisten opaskoirana.

Suomeen rottweiler on tullut Ruotsista ja omistajina olivat tällöin keskimääräistä varakkaammat ruotsia puhuvat henkilöt. Toisen maailmansodan jälkeen arvioitiin, että Suomessa olisi ainoastaan vajaa 20 rottweileriä.

Suomen Kennelliiton edeltäjän, Suomen Kennelklubin, rotukirjassa ensimmäinen rottweiler on uros joka oli syntynyt vuonna 1923. Moen Ullberg:in arvellaan olleen ensimmäinen varsinainen rottweiler kasvattaja Suomessa jo 1930-luvulla.

ROTUMÄÄRITELMÄSTÄ:

Syyskuussa 1901 Albert Kull teki ensimmäisen tiedossa olevan rotumääritelmän ja vuonna 1965 FCI teki oman rotumääritelmänsä rodulle. Vuonna 1907 Saksassa perustettiin kaksi rotuyhdistystä: Deutscher Rottweiler-Klub ja Der Internationale Rottweiler-Klub. Molemmat rotuyhdistykset laativat omat rotumääritelmänsä (vuosina 1913 ja 1914). Hajallaan olevat rotua harrastavat yhdistykset perustivat Allgemeinen Deutchen Rottweiler Klub:in (ADRK), josta myöhemmin tuli ainoa rotuyhdistys ja ADRK julkaisi oman rotumääritelmänsä vuonna 1921. Tästä rotu-määritelmästä tuli myöhemmin perusta FCI:n julkaisemalle rotumääritelmälle.

ROTUMÄÄRITELMÄ

LUONTEESTA:

Rottweiler on ystävällinen ja rauhallinen palveluskoira. Rottweiler kiintyy voimakkaasta isäntäänsä/ emäntäänsä ja on itsevarma ja peloton koira. Rottweiler on myös kuuliainen ja työnhaluinen mutta jotkut, varsinkin urokset, voivat omata ns. ”oman mielen”, eli voivat olla ”itsepäisiä jääräpäitä”.

Rottweiler tietää ja tuntee oman arvonsa ja ellei omistaja ole rottweilerin ollessa pentu tehnyt lauman johtajuus arvoa selväksi, ottaa rottweiler helposti ylivallan perheessä.

Rottweiler on keskivahva työkoira ja ulkoiselta olemukselta saa helposti mielikuvan ”lihaskimpusta”. Vaikka rottweiler on voimakas rungoltaan, se harvoin on kömpelö vaan itse asiassa koiran sopusuhtaisuus ja tasapainoisuus tekee sitä yllättävänkin ketterän. Rottweilerille ei tuota ongelmia kömpiä avonaisesta ikkunasta ulos!

HISTORY:

The breed is an ancient one, and its history stretches back to the Roman Empire. In those times, the legions travelled with their meat on the hoof and required the assistance of working dogs to herd the cattle. One route the army travelled was through Württemberg and on to the small market town of Rottweil.

This region eventually became an important cattle area, and the descendants of the Roman cattle dogs proved their worth in both droving and protecting the cattle from robbers and wild animals. It would be a brave villain who would try to remove the purse around the neck of a Rottweiler Metzgershund (Butcher's Dog of Rottweil).

However, by the end of the 19th Century, the breed had declined so much that in 1900 there was only one female to be found in the town of Rottweil. But the build up to the World War I saw a great demand for "police dogs," and that led to a revival in interest for the Rottweiler. Its enormous strength, its intelligence, and its ability to take orders made it a natural weapon of war.

In the early 1900's the Rottweiler came to prominence. The breed gained popularity as police dogs. The Allegmeiner Deutscher Rottweiler Klub (ADRK) was formed in 1921 and FCI accepted ADRK´s breedstandard in 1965.

BREEDSTANDARD

CHARACTER:

The rottweiler is a good-natured and a steady dog. The rottweiler is very devoted to its owner and is fearless and self-assured. The rottweiler is also obedient and eager to work. He reacts to his surroundings with great alertness, which makes him a good guardian dog. Although, the rottweiler can be the devil himself if not taken care and trained properly.
